Deforestation Pros and Cons List

Forests cover over 30% of the planet and when people typically hear the term “deforestation” they immediately think of all of the negative effects that it has on the planet. There are a few advantages to deforestation that give us the luxuries that we didn’t have access to in the past.

List of Pros of Deforestation

1. Improving Accessibility
One of the main reasons as to why forests are being cut down is to improve the accessibility of cities and towns around the world. The more open space that is available equates to more housing, expansions for malls, and new roadways that improve the convenience of every day life. This is all essential for boosting the economy of any area.

2. Material Use
Deforestation is also a result of the need for more products that rely on the use of wood products. Whether you’re interested in buying a solid wood bedframe or if you need a new coffee table for your home, there’s a large probability that it contributed to deforestation at one point or another. Although we are eliminating forests, the materials are being used.

3. Improving Revenue
Governments need to make money from a variety of tasks, otherwise they rely on their citizens to pay for the costs of new roadways, building construction, and more. With deforestation comes an ample amount of money that the government can use to better the lives of their residents. It is a great way to boost the economy of developing countries to improve the daily lives of third world residents.

List of Cons of Deforestation

1. Increase in Carbon Dioxide
Trees are responsible for making sure that the planet remains habitable as they filter carbon dioxide out of the air and release oxygen. The less trees that you have, the more likely it is that the air will become relatively unhealthy. It is incredibly dangerous to the environment to consider cutting down more and more trees.

2. Wildlife Concerns
Take a moment to think about all of the wildlife that is displaced once you start cutting down forests. This is one of the main reasons as to why more home owners are dealing with infestations of raccoons, mice, and even skunks. When deforestation is a concern, the homes of animals are being destroyed every moment, forcing them into areas that aren’t suitable. This also results in a decline in species, which could result in endangered species.
